Aleph Strategies and the Centre on Armed Groups conducted research into the role of non-state armed groups in the protection of cultural heritage. This report is funded by the British Council’s Cultural Protection Fund in partnership with the UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The aim of the project was to test the hypothesis that engaging with Non-state Armed Groups (NSGAS) for the protection of cultural heritage provides opportunities for peace-building between parties to conflict.
